Homestay Short Courses
for ages 13-18 (to mid-June 2012) at The English Experience English Language School
Please note the homestay short courses are for group bookings of 15 students or more. For smaller groups please contact Sylvia. This course is not available for Independent students.
The teachers use a wide variety of methods and approaches depending on the type of course selected. The methods take into account different learning styles and levels within the classroom. The approach is communicative and encourages students to maximise opportunities for practising language in pairs and groups as well as interacting with the local population through surveys and questionnaires.

Examples of possible courses
British Culture project Students work with their teacher to develop a strong understanding of British culture through class work and interaction with the local population and their host families. The students work in groups to present their findings in various ways, e.g. a formal presentation using interactive technology, a blog, a debate or a question and answer session.
Environmental project A project more suited to higher level students, preferably intermediate and above. Students research environmental issues in the local area using a variety of resources, including canvassing public opinion, visiting the renowned School of Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia and interviewing local politicians. The project can additionally cover subjects such as statistics in the context of data presentation. Students present their findings as a “bid for funding” to encourage expressing opinions and the use of persuasive language.
Examination practice We offer tailored examination English, including exam techniques and mock speaking papers. In the past we have provided courses to support students studying for the International Baccalaureate, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS. Any specific requirements can be discussed with, Kate, the Director of Studies.
